Karina Leblanc, Maple Ridge, BC: “When you dream of playing World Cup, you don't dream of it being at home and now that's almost a reality. So this is better than any dream I could have ever had.”
Christine Sinclair, Burnaby, BC: “It's going to be incredible. It's a once in a lifetime opportunity. Can't wait for it to start and to be able to play in the biggest tournament of your life in front of your friends and family is pretty special.
“I think a lot of lessons can be learned at a young age through sports. You know, respecting yourself, respecting your teammates, hard work, the highs and lows that come with sports and you're learning it through a fun environment.”
The Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport): “Sport is something that drives communities. To get involved in sports and physical activity is very important. You know, you learn teamwork, it builds your confidence, you learn to respect each other and that's what sports brings to every kid.”
Bal Gosal [giving a speech to a crowd]: “I'm happy to see so many friends and people here cheering all of our athletes. I just want to say ‘Go Canada Go!’
“And ladies let's bring the trophy back to Canada. Thank you.”
Karina Leblanc: “It's now the opportunity for us to truly embrace this and understand that, not only can we inspire young girls but we can inspire a nation.”
